The Honours and Awards Committee ttee have carefully considered the claims to recognition of Officers and Men of M/V. CAMEO for good services in taking off French and British troops at St. Valery. Decorations have already been approved for the Master and the Mate, and the Committee submit the following further Awards:- Distinguished Service Medal Cornelius Harris, Boatswain. m.v. "CAMEO". The crew of this vessel manned two ships lifeboats and made three trips to the beach at St. Valery-en-Caux taking off about 400 French and British Troops. During the last trip the boats were machine-gunned by the Germans. The name of the Master is Steven Masson and the names of the lifeboats crews are :- Submitted 67.40 Neil McKinnon y (Cycle) arrist) late (Dass) check. Cornelius Harris y Bo'swain D.J.M. William Patience 1 A.B. D.S.M. Alfred Barfoot - A.B. Most Edward Wills 15 A.3. Mut. Ronald Martin y Wiper - new Efforts have been made to get in touch with the Master in order to ascertain whether the names of the boats' crews given by him were in order of priority for merit. The vessel is at present coasting and efforts to get in touch with the Master have so far failed, but the owners state that the names as given by the Waster are in order of merit. Not: Re above.
