A note about image and OCR quality

When off Calais near 'Dyck' Light Ship position both ships heavily shelled by shore batteries Maid of Orleans' in vicinity also shelled. All three ships return to Dover by unauthorised route to avoid severe damage. -5-40. Left Downs 1112 following 'St Helier\| St Julien' and 'St Andrew' not having & chart for specified route. Bombs and aerial torpedoes fell near ship when passing Middelkerke Bank buoy. Ordered out of Harbour and vicinity on account of severe bombing by relays. Impossible to remain in the vicinity. All three ships returned to Downs. --5-40. Received orders to proceed to Dunkirk escorted by destroyer, 1St Andrew' following astern. When north of lieuport buoy and destroyer had moved on ahead, ship was heavily bombed, machine gunned and shelled by shore batteries, bombs pitching close alongside ship causing damage which has been submitted under separate cover ( 1st June 1. Proceeded to Denkirk. Impossible to enter harbour or remain in vioinity owing to continuous heavy bombing. Returned to Downs. -5-40. 0545 Naval party boarded with orders to proceed to Dunkirk. Left 0512 ( delay caused by foul anchor). Arrived Dinkirk 0858 alongaide North Pier. Loading patients, crew assisting under shellfire. No bombing during loading. Left 1018 reported Dover Roads - ordered to Newhaven. Largest these Red attacks were deliherate on the Sofulien Cross flag kept flying throughout.	Maid of Orleans Newhaven Dover Light Masters Roads
