SUBJECT
LOSS OF H.M.S. "THURINGIA".
The following report is submitted with reference to my signal of 28th May 1940 timed 1600.
2. Skipper J.D. Fowler, R.N.R., W.S.2651, H.M.S.
"Wolves", reports that when on patrol two miles west of
"I" Buoy at 0315 on 28th May 1940, an explosion was heard bearing west south west. "Wolves" continued west on her patrol and as cries were heard from the direction of this explosion, altered course towards it. Little could be seen, as dawn was just breaking, but four men who were clinging to wreckage were picked up.

"Wolves" searched the vicinity until approximately
0540, when search was Bandoned, and course was shaped for
Dover on the orders of Commander R.W. English, R.N. (Ret.),
Group Commander, 21st A/S Group.

Coltman, the attached report of the sinking of the
"Sirocco" is submitted for information.
2. Approximately 50 survivors were picked up by H.M.S. "Wolves" and 20 by H.M.S. "Stella Dorado".
3. The "Sirocco" was hit with two torpedoes.
