When the ship was being attacked by machine guns from the air he personally threw overboard three ready-use 427 cartridges which had been set alight by tracer bullets. AS gun-layer of B gun he armed his crow with rifles to engage the enemy after his gun had been put out of action.
Thomas Henry Heath, Leading Seaman, P/JX 155195, for initiative and devotion to duty when employed as comain of the whaler used to bring off troops from the beaches on May 28th and May 31st.

With reference to Flag Officer Commanding,
Dover's No.B14/0/1101/40 dated 4th June, 1940, and to my report of proceedings dated 4th June, 1940, I beg to submit the names of the following officers and ratings who are recommended for decoration or for mention in despatches.
Lieutenant Alan PHIPPS, Royal Navy. (No previous decorations).
Throughout the operation this officer, by his cheerfulness and disregard of personal danger, set a high example to the men. On the early morning of Saturday, 1st June, when the situation ashore was obscure due to heavy bombardment, he immediately volunteered to proceed ashore to find out what was happening. After the ship had been struck he was tireless in his efforts to disembark the soldiers and look after the well-being of those who remained on board, and it was due to his leadership that the fires were so quickly got under control.
Lieutenant (B) Andrew Cormack MAHONY, Royal Navy. (No previous decorations)
This officer, by his coolness and energy, set a fine example to his department when dealing with the damage below after the ship had been struck. He rapidly assessed the damage, and by his efforts succeeded in getting way on the ship in the shortest possible time.
Eric James Littlewood GIBSON, Sick Berth Attendant, D/MX. 56025.

This rating displayed outstanding zeal and energy throughout. Without the assistance of any medical the officer he whom most badly maimed and some of whom he extricated deserves unaided dealt efficiently and untiringly with wounded, many of from were a pile of corpses and debris.
