Sir, re M.Y.BULLPUP.
With reference to your enquiry a.s to what part the "BULLPUP"
? E
took in the Dunkirk evacuation, I am pleased to give you such details as I have been able to obtain.
The boat was laid up at Newhaven Sussex and on the 30th. of
May last was ordered to sail for Sheerness but was later diverted to Dover. Neither my Skipper nor myself was able to sail with her but my Skipper (F. Parker) who served on the Newhaven lifeboat was sent to Dover shortly afterwards with the lifeboat.
He went on board the BULLPUP and gave the men (Navy men) on her hints on the running of the engine.
Later he went to Dover to sail back with the lifeboat and told me that in response to his enquiries about the Bullpup he had been informed that she had made 3 (three) ourneys with men on board from the beaches to Dover but had not returned a fourth time.
is
Since then I have been told by the owner of another yacht at
Newhaven, that his Skipper 1 F. French) wrote and said that he saw the BULLPUP at Dunkirk apparently stranded on the beach to the East of Dunkirk Harbour.
I regret that these are all the details I have been able to obtain.
Your Department has now advised me that the boat must be considered a total loss.
Yours feithfully
A. Johnth H Smith.
