These boats could have been manned by volunteers of this Company, but unfortunately for them, it was found that their services were of greater value in preparing other boats of the Fleet for a like purpose.
We might mention, that be sides these three boats, seven others of the Fleet were put into commission, but unfortunately not in time to be of service.

Re Dunkirk.
One of the most outstanding incidents to come under my notice, was the action of one of our dstroyers.
We had had a quiet, uneventful crossing in very fine weather on this particular morning, and orders were to enter Dunkirk Roads, by the South Channel. This Channel runs very close to the shore, to the southward of Dunkirk, and part of this shore was in enemy hands. As we entered this channel a destroyer, came to meet us, and got between us and the shore and escorting us for some distance, and letting out a smoke screen, shielding us from the shore. All the time the destoyer's gun were blaxing away, and his anti-aircraft guns were in action with many enemy planes, that were overhead.
The destroyer went ahead, and as he passed us, we got a cheery wave from the officers on the bridge, and most were doing their job, that drew the admiration of myself and of the crew. It was the cool efficiency, with which those chaps crew. Their action made our work easier, and we filled up with troops in no time.

Re Dunkirk.
During the afternoon of May 3Ist, after taking aboard some boat loads of soldiers, we decided to steam in shore to pick up some more, when we came across a motor-yacht disabled.
This we took in tow. After about an hour her tow rope fouled our propeller, which we could not free. I knew would should be seen by a Patrol ship at some time or other so, we went on with our work, getting as many soldiers aboard, which at this time proved a mixed lot, British and French.
Every available space aboard was taken up by a soldier, cabin, fish hold, wheelhouse, decks, even in the engine room.
Sometime in the evening, I cannot give the correct time, a
Patrol ship, did arrive, an d took us in tow.
It has since occurred to me, that no one thought of the predicament we were in, and the only concern of everyone was to get the troops aboard. In between times we were kept amused by the way our men, of the Navy, were shooting down the divebombers, just like rooks.

One incident which stands out vividly in my mind was the action of part of my crew, on the morning of May
3Ist. The N.O.I.C. of my ship had asked a few motor-boats which were laying about, if they were going to get some troops off the beach, and the reply he received was, that there was not sufficient water to get in close enough. On hearing this four immediately, to take a chance and go themselves. of the two of my crew, the Mate, Boswain, and 2 Deckhands all volunteered

Dear Sirs,
In reply to your communication of September 1940, I
volunteered and was in charge of my own craft "Kintail" during the Dunkirk evacuation, together with three volunteers, L.J.
Hardwick, "Hangleton", Pembroke Gardens Hove: Clifford Wright,
"March", Croft Avenue Southwick; and George Pettit, 4 Seal View
Estate Southwick.
I proceeded to Dover on May 30th, under instructions received from the Resident Naval Officer at Shoreham, Commander
A.R.T. Williams R.N., and reported at H.M.S.Lynx on the ewening of the same day, and from that time onwards we were placed under command of C.M.S.at Dover and operated with the De-Gaussing Squad during the whole operation, we were also used for trans-shipping ammunition to Destroyers on several occasions. I left my vessel on the 5th June at Ramsgate, as she had been requisitioned.
I regret that I am not able to give you fuller details as it is very difficult to divide any one incident from another as we were operating continuously with no more than two hours off a day.
