I continued as long as possible although the soveme increasing surf was making it very difficult to get the lifeboat back to the ship again. As the tide was turning, I was having difficulty in holding my ship in position, but seeing the soldiers standing waist deep in the water, I encouraged my men to make one last trip to the beach. This they did, but unfortunately coming out through the surf the AND boat was swamped. I managed to save all the men and also the boat, the boat gear was lost. weart IND I got the ship off the beach safely and have landed the troops in a home port. 15 among The crew worked splendidly, at times swimming to the boats with the soldiers. In one raid there were over forty enemy planes over us bombing and machine-gunning, but I am very pleased to report that we brought one enemy aeroplane TAX down with our 12 pounder gun and that we were helpful in driving off raiders with our Bren and Lewis guns.
