When we left the vessel she was burning fiercely aft. H.M.S. "Pangbourne" then proceeded closer inshore and embarked some troops, being subjected to several air raids in which a good many lives were lost and the ship herself holed, so she went out of action and proceeded homewards. On the way we fell in with an Admiralty Trawler, the "Gracie Fields" with troops onboard. She had been bombed and wished to be towed. We towed her for several hours but as they found she was sinking they took off the crew and abandoned her.
