Dear Mr. Hynard,
Further to my letter of 19th August; I find that I have not sent you a copy of the report on the evacuation of Dunkirk by the Master of "Scotia", and have pleasure in enclosing herewith his own statement, a signed copy of which was sent direct from Holyhead to the Admiralty. In my letter referred to I did mention to you the devotion to duty of the Chief Engineer of this ship, who lost his life when the ship was sunk.
I am still awaiting the report of Captain Tulley of H.M.T. "Duke of York" on the evacuation of St. Valery.

In reply to your letter of 7th August; we have pleasure in enclosing report received from Captain Clarke,
Master of H.M.T. "Princess Maud", on the evacuation of Dunkirk.
We have previously written to you in connection with the work performed by Captain W.H. Hughes of H.M.T. "Scotia".
The "Princess Maud" sustained considerable damage through enemy action, and as you will note, lost four of her crew. It is regretted that Captain Clarke's report should be so late in coming to hand, but this is explained by the fact that he is a man of very retiring nature, and it was somewhat difficult to get him to tell us of the good work done by his ship.
The devotion to duty of the Chief Engineer, Nunns, when the vessel was shelled in way of the engine room, leaving a hole, as the Captain describes "about a yard square", has impressed us very much, and we have pleasure in drawing your attention to this.
We have already written you regarding the work performed by the "Princess Maud" and "Duke of York" at the evacuation from
St. Valery.
