of the ensuing period there is little to say except that the ship was boarded by the Admiralty Salvage Officer first thing next morning and the ship examined as thoroughly as possible the next low water.
Each time the after part of the ship drained out with the tide, all the visible leaks both in the shell plating and in the bulkheads were stopped as effectively as possible with the materials at hand, three salvage pumps were rigged in the after 'tween deeks to deal with whatever water which leaked past the plugs.
These operations were in progress until Friday June 7th. when we were towed off the beach by Tug "LADY BRASSEY" and afterwards with the assistance of two tugs towed to London finally arriving at SW India Dock at 6 R.M.
