H.XG.Pad.515 1st July,1940 Dear Sir, I have to thank you for the letters sent by the Minister, for Captain Baxter of the 'Whitstable' and Captain Jones of the 'Dinard' which were sent with yours of the 27th June. With regard to the S.S. 'Hythe', I cannot do better than send you herewith the report the Master made to our Docks and Marine Manager on the 9th June. You will see that Captain Morford not only went to Dunkirk, but, failing to get a load of troops from the Beaches he went beyond his instructions and entered Harbour and was successful in evacuating 674 Officers and men. Naval officer boarded with routes, and instructions to proceed to a position five miles East of Dunkerque, and pick up troops. ed I to B to B 03.50 Left anchorage for Dunkerque. 08.20 Anchored close inshore at named Bray, in 21 fathoms of water. 30 S of 09.45 Hove up anchor, as the tide was falling. In reply to your letter of 15th August, 1940, all reports received by me in connection with Operation "Dynamo" have been sent to the Admiralty for record. 2. reports were forwarded from "Canterbury", "Maid of Orleans", Of the ships named by you, it is known that "Biarritz", "Autocarrier", "Isle of Guernsey", "Worthing" and "Whitstable". There was also a report from Commodore E. G. Jukes 3. Hughes, C.B.E., who acted as Principal Sea Transport Officer, Dover, during the Operation.
