A note about image and OCR quality

Every reasonable effort has been made to present these document images as flat, straight and accurately cropped as possible. Historical records can be difficult to photograph or scan because of tight bindings, deep gutters, page curvature, folds, creases, fragile paper, uneven edges, shadows, glare, skewed pages, fading, stains, tears, attachments and restrictions on how a document may be handled. Considerable post-production work has been undertaken to crop, align, flatten and enhance the images where practicable, but the results represent our best effort rather than exact facsimiles. Handwriting is not reliably recognised and, in most places, may be missing, incomplete or incorrectly transcribed. I am bringing the gallant action of the Skipper to the notice of the Director of Sea Transport with a view to his being rewarded. Can you please ascertain, and report to me, what members of his crew should also be brought to the notice of the Director of Sea Transport for reward. I was on the quay at the time and can therefore endorse all parts of Lieutenant Whittle's report, which refers to work done alongside the quay. My address up to 4th June will be care of P.S.T.O., South-Western Hotel, Southampton, for Principal Sea Transport Officer, French Ports, (Commodore W.P.Gandell,R.N.) (signed) Secretary, II.
