0400. Took Captain Bush and party of officers to inspect beaches between Dunkirk and La Panne.
0600. Returned to Dunkirk.
Ferried soldiers from West to East Piers.
0910. Returned to Dover, taking Captain Bush and Lieutenant Commander
Dennis.
0940. Engaged two hostile aircraft. Ordinary Telegraphist Kirkwood wounded in wrist by machine gun bullet. Aircraft made off as soon as 18
opened fire.
1035. Secured Dover.
1040. Discharged Ordinary Telegraphist Kirkwood to H.N.S."SANDOURST".
Fuelled and replaced damaged stores.
1540. Sailed for Dunkirk taking W/T transmitting set and two telegraphists for Field Marchall Lord Gort. Aldo demolition party.
1635. Owing to considerable degiation caused by W/T cet, reached coast near Gravelines and was fired on by shore batteries. Took necessary avoiding action.
1710. Secured Dunkirk and landed demolition party. Intense dive bombing during the afternoon brought all activities in the neighbourhood of Dunkirk to a standstill. After second air raid instructed crew to take shelter in dugout on East Pier.
S.N.O. afloat.
Ordered to proceed to H.M.S. "HEBE" and act under orders of beaches throughout night reporting on activities of and supplied fuel for motor boats; transferred from H.M.S. "HERR" to attendant destroyer;
merchant seamen soldiers from H.M.S. "HRRE" to H.M.S. "LOTUS" and took and Admiral Wake-Walker to organise beaching parties.
