MALDON ANNIE IV M/B (Col. Lamont) S/Lt. T. Lawrie, R.N.V.R. 30th May Left Dunkirk. Sheerness for Ramsgate and - Engine Ramsgate. broke down on the way to 31st May 0845 Taken in tow by the tr. Strath Elliott All out. the bollards and cleats pulled 1215 Taken in tow stern first, with a strop right round the boat. 1620 Off Dunkirk beaches. Pumps choked, E bilge full of rubbish, making water fast. The boat drifted on to the beach and was abandoned. It fulfilled some useful purpose however, by being used as a pier. Nil [s/Lt. Lawrie transferred to a large diesel- engined barge and left in her, full of troops, for Ramsgate about 2400/31. on 2nd June, he was given command of the M/B Wings of the Morning. ] Authority - - R.O.II, pp.394, 531, 533. 225

WINGS OF THE MORNING (1) M/B Lord Dunboyne) R.E. S/Lt. Button,Skipper. a.m. Left in Littlehampton, company. the M/B Windsong R.N.V.R. 30th May p.m. Arrived Dover. - - Windsorg in company. the the Jianning. taken in repaired. Decided id. - Dover. 1st June 0700 Left Dover, with the Windsong and 4 other boats in tow of the dfr. Kindred company. Star. The dfr. Thrifty in - Arrived Dunkirk. Sent a 12 ft. boat into the beach to collect troops. She was blown up by bombs. Four ships were also blown up. p.m. Wings of the Morning proceeded. 2nd June - Arrived Ramsgate, where the boat was turned over to the Navy - and the crew returned to Littlehampton. S/Lt. Lawrie (who had already been to Dunkirk in the M/B Maldon Annie IV) then took command. p.m. Left Ramsgate with a number of other boats, when within a few miles of - Dunkirk, was ordered by a M.T.B. to return to Ramsgate. Nil [on 3rd June, S/Lt. Lawrie took command of the tug Dromedary Authority - J.D.C. R.O.II, p.533. (1) S/Lt. Lawrie refers to this vessel as"Wind of the Morning."
