There is little information about the
Rian's activities at Dunkirk, but

on the night of 30/31st May - she left
Dunkirk for Ramsgate with troops on
board.
Her engines were in a bad state and
2 of the crew of the Ramsgate
life boat [the Prudential were
embarked to assist in navigating her.
Near Ramsgate, the skoot Jutland
found the Rian with her engines
disabled. She took Rian in tow and
anchored her within 2 mile of
Ramsgate Pier.

In D.R.'s list of ships, the names of 43 skoots
given. Actually, there were 40 skoots in Operation Dynamo. are
Five names have been deleted from D.R's list, two
have been added, and two names have been amended, as follows:- names
(1) Deletions
Demok I was a Dutch yacht, not a skoot.
"Orange Yreeswi jh" was in fact the Oranje,
port of origin Vreeswijk.
"Tung" (q.v.) was not a skoot, and, as a
ship, did not apparently exist.
Java and Princess Juliana broke down and
took no part in Operation Dynamo.
(2) Additions
Jaba and Rian were commissioned for
Operation Dynamo, and worked off the beaches.
(3) Amendments
"Frisco" (q.v.) has been amended to Friso
"Hebe" has been amended to Hebe II.
