England - she turned and headed

About this time, the Yvonne et Moabe
was sunk by a direct hit.

Air attack continues.

Bombs heard dropping. Drifters heading
home without leaving orders. Some
small boats turn back.

Abdy Beauclerk, only, in company.
1718
The life boat'Rosa Wood" [i.e. the
Rosa Wood and Phyllis Lunn] joined
company. The Rosa Wood and Phyllis
Lunn decided to return to Dover.

Closed a drifter.
1821
Air attack continues. The Abdy
Beauclerk and the Rosa Wood turn back.
1854
Lieut. Mead in the E.M.E.D. carried on
towards Dunkirk.
1926
The M/B Cairngorm in reply to a query,
signalled "steer S.55 E. for Dunkirk".

Joined company with the tug Sun IV.
2044
Arrived off Dunkirk with Sun IV.
2100
Lt. Mead boarded the Sun IV.
2135
Dunkirk harbour. Ferried troops to the
M/S Niger and other ships lying out-
side the harbour. Whilst coming
alongside the Niger [towing a boat in
which was Sea Cadet Lieut. Sidmouth-
Willing], a shell exploded nearby;
Lieutenant Mead was mortally wounded,
and died in 15 minutes. (1)

The E.M.E.D. left Dunkirk in tow of the
Sun IV.

taken in tow, and then slipped at
their request.
