M/L. TIGRIS I H. Hastings, Owner, Skipper - 28th May Left Kingston for Sheerness. 0230 29th May Left Sheerness for Ramsgate. 1100 Arrived Ramsgate. "We were still without a pilot, having one naval officer and two ratings". 1430 30th May Left for Dunkirk, with orders "to follow a pilot boat". - 31st May The "Pilot boat" broke down. Tigris I was ordered to steer for the flames of Dunkirk, about 2 hours distant. a.m. Arrived Dunkirk. Tigris I ferried troops in conjunction' with the M/B's Lansdowne and Princess Lily, off La Panne. - Engines gave trouble and the boat went back to Dunkirk, where 5 ferrying trips were made. - On the 4th ferrying trip at Dunkirk, Mr. Hastings was blown overboard by bomb blast, but got back on board. - The Tigris I became disabled and was abandoned. 1st June - The crew returned to Ramsgate "in the same boat as the troops". The Tigris I eventually returned to England. Mr. Hastings estimates that 800 troops were ferried. Authority - TO.9144/40. 233
