Arrived at the beaches, but could find
no troops. Pulled off a boat with
a crew of six which had run aground -
it was low water.

Then went into Dunkirk harbour.

Seized a drifting ship's life boat and
embarked 70 Frenchmen in it. Then
took her in tow and proceeded.

"Back on the south-east coast".
According to R.O.II, p.393 the Kayell's story
1s as follows:
"Mr. Burns (from Southend), took over the
Kayell, arriving on the beaches at 0130, June 3rd.
He picked up the crew of the Black Arrow
which was ashore(2). He ferried French troops
to a French destroyer and a fishing smack."
Kayell was subsequently beached at Ramsgate.
It is however evident that Kayell was one
of the 12 unnamed M/B's that went over on 2nd
June with Admiral Taylor (in the White Wing)

sea and some engine trouble, White
Wing did not overtake the slow
convoy of skoots and M/B's.

The 3 skoots were contacted between
E.12 buoy and the shore, and the M/B's
which had gone inshore, were closed.
The latter had found the beach
deserted.
Cdre. Taylor says:
"After giving one boat, which had
broken down, to a skoot to tow, I
ordered them all [presumably the M/B's]
to return to Ramsgate, and went back
to the beach" to see no one was left
behind.

The Nieuport battery (four 6" guns)
landed a salvo on the Eastern Mole.
Another round sank a transport
that was just entering Dunkirk.
Decided to proceed.

Sighted a life boat [in charge of
Sea Cadet Lieut. Sidmouth-Willing],
from the Sk. Hilda; the occupants
were embarked in the White Wing,
and the life boat taken in tow.
The M/B Singapore, ashore, was also
sighted, but her crew decided to
wait till the incoming tide refloated
her.

Off Dunkirk, picked up 6 French troops,
pulling in a fishing boat.
