A note about image and OCR quality

Every reasonable effort has been made to present these document images as flat, straight and accurately cropped as possible. Historical records can be difficult to photograph or scan because of tight bindings, deep gutters, page curvature, folds, creases, fragile paper, uneven edges, shadows, glare, skewed pages, fading, stains, tears, attachments and restrictions on how a document may be handled. 71	Log in to enlarge	Page 31 Operation "DYNAMO" - Recommendations of Personnel. H.M.S. VENOMOUS - Lieutenant Commander John Edwin Home McBeath, R.N. VENOMOUS made 5 trips to Dunkirk and the beaches and brought home about 4,900 troops. Off Bray beach on the 31st May she was subjected to repeated high level bombing attacks and again the same day, when lying off Dunkirk waiting to enter. She was also attacked by an aircraft with machine gun fire during the night of 2nd/3rd, but the enemy was driven off by barrage fire. Captain D.16 in his minute to VENOMOUS report states: "This is the third occasion recently on which VENOMOUS has done well in action. I consider great credit is due to her." Recommendation. OFFICER. Lieutenant Commander John Edwin Home McBeath, R.N. By his skilful handling of VENOMOUS during the period 31st May - 4th June, he avoided damage to his ship from air attack and brought home about 4,900 troops. Recommended for mention.
