Chief Mechanician Arthur Frederick Ford, P/K. 21534.
When the ship was alongside the pier overladen and straddled by enemy gunfire, troops rushed to port and the ship took a list of 20 degrees. Ford
CE
checked the rush and moved the troops back to starboard OF
thus preventing a major disaster.
Ford again showed powers of leadership above the ordinary in pressing troops into service for getting in the brows, cutting the moorings and getting the ship away from the pier. Afterwards he went below to take the ship out.
Recommended for mention.

"M" DRIFTERS attached to H.M.S. WATCHFUL - Lieutenant Alexander Harper-

Thirteen from Drifters were used in the operation, continually being bombed and also shelled by shore batteries. Three ships of the flotilla were put out of action by near misses. The remainder all received superficial damage from splinters and concussion.'
Recommendations.
OFFICERS:
Lieutanant Alexander Harper Turner, R.N.V.R.
Showed great determination, pertinacity and devotion to duty under very trying circumstances.
Recommended for decoration.
Sub. Lieutenant Norman Walter Albert Mann, R.N.V.R. Unit Officer.
Showed great determination and devotion to duty in the handling of his unit whilst off the beaches.
Recommended for mention.
Skipper George Hattan, W.S., 3022. R.N.R.-REED.
Showed great determination and devotion to duty in the handling of his Drifter whilst off the beaches, enabling a large number of troops to be evacuated.
Recommended for decoration.
RATINGS:
Chief Engineman A.A. Storr, X.6082, E.S. - FEASIBLE.
After his Drifter had broken down due to near miss from shell-fire, showed great devotion to duty and determination in trying to maintain steam in face of continuous bombing and shell-fire.
Recommended for decoration.
The following ratings all showed a splendid example under trying circumstances when under constant bombing and shell fire, and they are accordingly recommended for mention:
