Operation "DYNAMO" - Recommendations of Personnel.

These 19 drifters had been employed on 10 days'
and on patrol immediately prior to the commencement of
DYNAMO. Throughout DYNAMO, they worked with marked zeal where the shelling was most severe. All did well in a particularly at the post of honour in the inner harbour, and conspicuous success, rainly at Dunkirk Harbour, and varying degree and were responsible for lifting to safety some 10,000 Allied troops.
The following officers and men have been selected for special recognition of their gallant services.

H.M.Drifter THE BOYS: - Skipper Andrew Buchan, R.N.R., W.S.3319.
Skipper A. Buchan, his own ship being under repair, volunteered immediately for any service, with the remark that he would do anything for his country.
He was given charge of a tow of Liege lake boats. He subsequently took command of the drifter YORKSHIRE LASS
embarking soldiers under fire.
His endurance and determination when injured, clad in rags and completely exhausted, were of the highest order. He was finally ordered to the sick list. It is considered that Skipper Buchan's behaviour was exceptional.

H.M. Drifter MIDAS. - Skipper Herbert Holden, R.N.R., W.8.3432.
Skipper H. Holden is commended for service in action when in command of MIDAS. This Officer's conduct and leadership were of the highest order.

Chief Engineman Harry B. Sharman, LT/KX.105182.
When BOY ROY was damaged and in a sinking condition, he remained in the engine room regardless of any danger to himself, until his ship was beached, the water having risen in the meanwhile to the furnace door. He sent the rest of his engine room crew up to safety and remained alone at his post.

On 28th May this man made eight trips from drifter to shore and back, as a volunteer, Many of these trips were done under fire. His work was outstanding and an example to all. He subsequently made other trips to Dunkirk in drifters and has always been prominent in volunteering for any duty.

This man consistently showed a good example of cheerfulness and courage under fire and stood out as a good and willing worker at all times.

In charge of boats to and from the shore.
Volunteered for any job that was going and showed good qualities of leadership and courage throughout the operations at Dunkirk.

Worked continuously with Mate Bettess and was a volunteer at all times for any work, regardless of his own safety.

Did invaluable work machine-gunning aircraft until PAXTON sank, thus setting a fine example of courage to his men. Later he transferred to
UT PROSIM. Working from her and on the beaches, he did very good work assisting soldiers to evacuate under fire.
