Lieutenant Graham James Alexander Lumsden. R.N.
showed great ability in manoeuvering ship and avoiding repeated dive bombing attacks in very restricted waters. After the ship had been abondoned he remained behind to ensure that everything possible was done to save the ship and to destroy secret charts etc. Later his coolness and courage was very noticeable when the St. Abbs was bombed and sunk.
Recommended for mention.
(Is being recommended for decoration on account of service at Boulogne on 23rd May, just prior to operation "Dynamo")
Lieutenant Robert Walker Hughes, R.N.
Showed great courage in repairing W/T aerial during repeated bombing attacks. When ship was sinking showed imitiative in destroying signal books and apparatus. After receiving injuries in the Tug St. Abbs his courage and devotion to duty assisted in survivors escaping to Dover for in the wreck of the Clan Mac Allister.
Recommended for decoration.
Midshipman Harry Batten Poustie, R.N.R.
The good bearing, coolness and initiative of this young officer in face of danger was most noticeable.
Remained on board to assist with destruction of secret documents. Later assisted in clothing and feeding survivor on board Clan Mac Allister including the care of two badly wounded men.
Recommended for decoration.

When the ship was alongside the pier overladen and straddled by enemy gunfire, troops rushed to port and the ship took a list of 20 degrees. Ford checked the rush and moved the troops back to starboard, thus preventing a major disaster.
Ford again showed powers of leadership above the ordinary in pressing troops into service for getting in the brows, cutting the moorings and getting the ship away from the pier Afterwards he went below to take the ship out.

MOSQUITO was subjected to an unusually severe series of air attacks, during which Lieutenant Gardiner handled his ship with coolness and courage. He showed good judgment and seamanship in his work off the beaches, not only in evacuation with his own th vessel, but in directing the activities of other power led boats in the vicinity.
By remaining off the beaches during his second visit when subjected to a very severe air attack which ful caused minor damage to the ship, and casualties on him board, he succeeded in rescuing a further large number of troops. MOSQUITO was finally attacked by 20
Junkers and was literally enveloped by salvos and bombs for a considerable period, and was frequently hit, the ship commencing to sink. There is no doubt that Lieutenant Gardiner displayed admirable coolness and courage throughout these exacting events, and as

Throughout DYNAMO, they worked with marked of zeal particularly at the post of honour in the inner harbour, and conspicuous success, rainly at Dunkirk Harbour, and where the shelling was most severe. All did well in a varying degree and were responsible for lifting to safety some 10,000 Allied troops.

About 35 Naval Officers and 330 Naval ratings were employed for varying periods on these duties. A great number worked unseasingly without relief or rest, exposed to consistent air attacks, and periodical bombardments from artillery, for up to 7 days. The work of these

Showed great skill and seamanship in the manoeuvring of his ship whilst lying off the beach and also in entering Dunkirk harbour during dark hours due to the number of wrecks in the vicinity. By his perseverance and devotion to duty over 2300 were brought back to England.

MOSQUITO was subjected to an unusually severe series of air attacks, during which Lieutenant Gardiner handled his ship with coolness and courage. He showed good judgment and seamanship in his work off the beaches, not only in evacuation with his own vessel, but in directing the activities of other power boats in the vicinity.
By remaining off the beaches during his second visit when subjected to a very severe air attack which caused minor damage to the ship, and casualties on board, he succeeded in rescuing a further large number of troops. MOSQUITO was finally attacked by 20
Junkers and was literally enveloped by salvos and bombs for a considerable period, and was frequently hit, the ship commencing to sink. There is no doubt that Lieutenant Gardiner displayed admirable coolness and courage throughout these exacting events, and as
Commanding Officer of his ship gave an excellent lead to his officers and men, who themselves emulated his gallantry. Before finally leaving his ship, Lieutenant
Gardiner carried out all the duties required by the regulations and Service custom. He was finally wounded when on passage in WORCESTER.

These 19 drifters had been employed on 10 days'
continuous service in connection with the Calais operation and on patrol immediately prior to the commencement of
DYNAMO. Throughout DYNAMO, they worked with marked zeal and conspicuous success, rainly at Dunkirk Harbour, and particularly at the post of honour in the inner harbour, where the shelling was most severe. All did well in a varying degree and were responsible for lifting to safety some 10,000 Allied troops.
The following officers and men have been selected for special recognition of their gallant services.

Skipper A. Buchan, his own ship being under repair, volunteered immediately for any service, with the remark that he would do anything for his country.
