Between 29/5 and a.m. 4/6 made seven complete round trips to Dunkirk beaches, carrying to England about
420 troops. On the last night ferried off about 600
troops from Dunkirk Mole to transports lying off. When personnel vessel SCOTIA sank rescued 40 personnel from the water. Was periodically bombed and machine gunned and was under gunfire in Dunkirk harbour. Played a great part in the evacuation and showed great determination and endurance under fire.

These 2 ratings proceeded with the Motor
MERMAIDEN to Dunkirk. They both showed great initiative and devotion to duty under great a ties, especially when bombed and machine-gunn the second trip, Petty Officer Norton took the over himself, and proceeded into Dunkirk Harbour, which at that time was being shelled.

Motor Boat 275. - Chief Petty Officer Leighton.
This boat was used off the beaches at Dunkirk during severe bombing from the air. Direct hits were registered on several vessels. Boat proceeded to pick up survivors during the bombing attacks, and, having filled up, proceeded towards Ramsgate. On her way across she was fired at by 3 trawlers at 1, 100 yards range, one of whom then tried to ram her. All the crew and survivors overboard except two R.N.V.R. officers and Able Seam
Strand. The R.N.V.R. officers were wounded and Str charge of the boat, narrowly preventing the boat bei:
rammed. The boat was eventually towed to Ramsgate.
