With crew of two Ordinary Seamen, a Bren gun, a
Lewis gun and a compase he did not know how to use, completed seven or eight trips in one or other of these boats. Brought back more than 400 troops to England.
Was sunk with his crew in MARASOLE, undeterred resumed duty with PAULETEER. Endured frequent machine gunning from the air. During six days' work off the coast his idea of relaxation was to take "a run ashore" in Dunkirk ar, with his crew, this town burning furiously and under bombardment at the time. Displayed remarkable leadership, initiative and courage under fire.
