sailing was postponed until 2030. Slipped from jetty at 2025 and made for W.
entrance. Rammed amidships by "Worcester" which was proceeding towards her
berth with evacuated troops. Boats turned out by guards, seaman and first aid
party upon orders of the Captain. Ship proceeded upon her way. After a time the
dining saloon was found to be flooding and ship returned to anchorage.
The medical stores were immediately landed and an attempt made to join another
ship leaving the port but this was not possible.
The M.O. and party spent the night at Lord Warden+
2.6.40. Only two large ships were detailed to leave for Dunkirk. "Tynwald - and
"Manxman" in time for medical parties to got onboard. The staff of "Tynwald" remained
as before.

Joined Manxman at Igoo. This ship was extremely dirty and there vas & most
disagesable air of aprehension amongst the ships company. Since the commencement of
the evacuation It appears that the officers and ships company had been reluctant to
sail to Dunkirk and were continually walking off. (Vide report of Surgeon Lieut.
Stutter RNVR.). The Medical party carried on with their preparations and did
their utmost to instill better feeling amonst the officers and men of the Manamen.
Part of the officers and ships company had to be releived for 24 hours but before
they left the ship they had succeeded in infections their successors with their
aprehension etc. The cabins were left looked up, with senttles open and lights
switched on throughout the ship+ the keys could not be found and it was necessary
for the first aid party to break into "heads" and several cabins in order to closs
the deadlights and scuttles etc.
& fresh crew - eventailly procured and the
ship sailed at 2300.
The saloons were prepared for reception of patients and
steps taken to ensure that dressings were readily available throughout the ship.
Lewis guns in action IO minutes after leaving Dover's
Ship arrived at Number 6 beacon (or bucy) at 02400 3.6.40 but was turned back
by a destroyer as there were no more evacuees available for embarkation.
Ship returned to Dover AM.3.6.40.

PRINCESS MAUDE. Sailed 2015. Large ship, plenty of available space in cabins and
lounges. These spaces were prepared. Ships staff were very obliging and there was
no shortage of hot water, blankets ato ato. (Stramraer vessel). Arrived Dunkirk
2345- Could not get alonside owing to shipping which was delayed. Numerous collisions,
got alongside at 0140 and embarked 1470 French troops, using openings into sides.
Only 4 wounded patients, so medical staff employed in packing soldiers and Issuing
life belts. The embarkation was slow owing to presence of destroyers and other ships
at shore end of mole (also embarking man). Heavy shelling and parachute flares
throughout the exercise+ Laft the mole at 0240. Proceeded to Dover. inchored near
Downs owing to severe fog. Arrived libridate approximately 0800, at Ablkestone.
Casualties treated and evacuated to RAMO. ambulances 0830.
Received instructions to proceed to Dover by road.
Upon arrival at Lord Warden Hotal informed that evacuation was complete,
and that party should return by bus to R.N. Barracks, Chatham the same day.
Arrived R.N.Barracks at 1800 4.6.40.
