As it had been decided to cease evacuating troops
in daylight, there remained little to do except to prepare
the maximum staff to-night.
The following signal was made at 1435:-
"Please direct proportion of shipping to the French.
Arrangements or embarkation in the Novul D'Avant Port."
1536/2. From S.N.O. Dunkirk.
"Situation of wounded desperate. Shortgge of
medical stores and accomodation. Demand two
hospital ships forthwith:
At 1538/2 the following situation report was made:-
"French still mintain front line except for area east
of Bergues where the Germans have penetrated two
miles on a two-mile front. Counter attack being
made at 1500. In port no movement. Present
situation hopefuls
At dark vessels of all kinds arrived and were berthed
alongside the eastern armon the French jettys and further up
the harbour. Berthing was carried out by an officer with a
loud speaker at the pier head.
At 2230 the last of the B.E.F. started down the quay.
and were safely embarked by 2250 at which time I made a
signal as follows:-
"Operation completed. Returning to Dover." I then 2/6
embarked in a N.T.B. and left for Dover.
