The following recommendation in connection with Operation 'Dynsmo' is forwarded herewith.
A/ Stoker P.O. A.F.TAYLOR. O.N. C/KX 79114
This rating displayed great coolness in action as well as initiative under trying circumstances.
He was the Stoker P.O. in charge of No.1 Boller
Roomwhen many fragments of bomb which burst close alongside the ship at about 1700 on 29th May pierced the bull.
One fragment entered the main stem pipe of No.1 boiler and the boiler room immediately filled with superheated steam. By his prompt acti n in sbutting off sprayers, closing down, and evacuating the boiler room, be undoubtedly saved the lives of himself and the stoker who was also in the boiler room, and probably prevented a serious explosion.
On leaving the boiler room ne went forward to the messdeck where he found fires burning on both the upper and lower messdecks. He then took a leading fire part and in dealing with these fires, most of forward repair parties other fragments which had pierced the having become casualties due to bull being in struck this by vicinity.

Low level bombing attack. 7 bombs 150 yards away, no visible damage, no casualties. 0425. Proceeded for Dover. Speed 8 knots due to engine defects. 0945. Arrived Dover. D/C motor boat was used by staff of Flag Officer, Dover for routeing merchant ships to Dunkirk.
Engines most unsatisfactory. E.L. department worked continuously on both engines to diagnose faults and to remedy. Returned to harbour 0400/31.
Friday, 31st.
D/C motor boat again used for routeing. Engines still unsatisfactory, and at 1630 I suggested to Duty Officer on staff of
Flag Officer-in-Charge, Dover that the officers and men of the boat should make themselves useful elsewhere. Permission was received duty. to commandeer any available boats, to assume command and report for
Lieutenant Mead, as reported in R letter dated 12th
June, 1940, assumed command of R.N.L.B. WALTON & FRINTON.
Lieutenant Hamilton Meikle assumed commend of 40 ft.
ships fast motor boat and manned it with:-
Petty Officer John Luckins. P/J 103170, coxswain of the D/C
motor boat (as coxswain).

CORDA", (Ex Dutch Skoot) at Poole, P.M. Friday 24th May, 1940, sailing for Portsmouth at 1600 arriving at 2130.
"SURSUM_CORDA" remained in company with other Skoots under the ordera of Lieutenant Commander Stuart in H.M.S
"FREDANJA" until 28th May, 1940, when ship was sailed for
Dunkirk from Dover at 1400 by order of Vice Admiral Dover, for the evacuation of troops via North Goodwin and Middle Kirke.
On arrival off beaches at Dunkirk at approximately
2230, decided to enter harbour straight away having sighted large number of soldiers on mole, but apparently no other ships in the harbour, though & transport and other skoots were lying off, and twosships just leaving. The western side of the harbour was ablaze.
Having avacuated British troops, approximate number three hundred and seventy, ship sailed for Dover at 0330; &
hospital ship and six or seven other skoots having entered and secured to the mole were also embarking troops by this time.
Ship arrived off Dover 1130/29, no incidents of importance occurring on passage.
"SURSUM_CORDA" remained at Dover, storing for Dunkirk and provisioning until orders were received to sail again at 2100.

Officer Reporting: Sub-Lieutenant H.M. Davis, R.N.R.
Whilst proceeding to Dunkirk as ordered by C.A.P
with two lifeboats in tow, the Hospital Ship PARIS was bombed by a number of German air-planes; this was at 2115
and at a position approximately 8 miles to seaward of No. 5
buoy. (Dunkirk Entrance). Knowing that my two coxwains in charge of the lifeboats were capable or navigating their boats, I cast them off and proceeded to embark the survivors of the PARIS, which included 10 severely wounded cases.
The full complement of crew were rescued (96 in all) including the Captain, officers and 5 Nursing Sisters.
The Deck Boy Bullock, aged 16 years, use 80 severely wounded he died on board the tug shortly after being picked up.
Later at 8145 a lifeboat containing 13 Spanish seamen was picked up and the whole brought to Dover. Hounded and the dead boy were placed in hospital. Remainder of crew were disembarked. 13 Spaniards were placed under guard and interviewed by the Authorities.

Before leaving it had been reported to DD that the AURA'S engine was not operating successfully, in as such that she would not come astorn. is the weather appeared to be favourable there seened no reason why the operation could not be carried out.

On 30th May I left Sheerness in PRINCESS LILLY, a river pleasure boat. I started with 19 other small boats escorted by a trawler as guide, as most of the ships had no compass. During the early hours or 31st the trawler left us. life managed to continue on our way by following other vessels and H.M. Ships presumably bound for Dunkirk.
We gave assistance and several tows to motor boats during the passage. Arrived Dunkirk on Friday morning and proceeded to embark a small number of English troops and 4 naval ratings and many Frenchmen from the beach 12 miles East of Dunkirk.
I took these to merchant vessels lying nearby.
2.
I was told more British troops were at La Panne -
so I proceeded there. The falling tide and lee shore made rescue difficult, 80 1 picked up & derelict ship's boat to which I made fast some 90 fathoms of warp and rowed her/
to the beach paying out the warp. Took British troops aboard and overhauled on line back to ship. The strain eventually proved too great for the anchor cable which broke and the ship drifted ashore fouling her properllor with the warp. Had great difficulty in clearing properllor and only succeeded in getting her to work "Astern".
3. Refibated boat and took troops on board and ferried them by going "backwards" to H.M.S. HOSQUITO. Engine was losing compression after about 40 hours running and propellor was fouled.
