Ship was holed abreast the bridge port side above the water line, D.G. circuit being severed. Visibility at this time and place was about 50 yards. 0309 Arrived off Dunkirk Pier. Spoke "Wercester who was outside lying off. Entrance was obscured by clouds of black smoke. At this time the Engineer Officer informed me that he had used up the water in reserve feed tank and had run down one boiler and anticipated being able to steam for another 2 hours approximately. 0315 Entered. Secured alongside Eastern Pier which was crowded with soldiers and no other ships alongside. Embarked approximately 1000 soldiers. Soon after this other destroyers and transports entered.
