The above was done by the Routeing Office under the supervision of Lieutenant-Commander George Raymond
Grandage, Royal Naval Reserve, who was indefatigable:
and there was never hold-up or delay.
Lack of adequate communication in The Downs was an ccasional source of anxiety. There was a considerable number e QZ messages to be dealt with, which might affect not only rade Traffic but also "DYNAMO" operations. There is a natural eluctance to break W/T or R/T silence during an Air-raid arning, and there ware occasions when, through circumstances eyond control, all three fast Motor-boats were away and the nspection Tugs off theirstation for such duties as rendering lecessary assistance, watering small craft etc., thus suspending ea commmunications from the Naval Control Office for the time being.
The number of QZ messages during the period was 55, and the number of Air-raid warnings (Red) was 3, (leaving out of account the innumerable "Yellows"); but there was no instance when they coincided with the times at which there was no means of communication.

All Departments worked untiringly and selflessly, and with a complete team spirit.
