whom we handed over our boats, in accordance with instructions received before leaving Poole. On this journey from Poole to Dover the crews were as follows:-
"Ferry Nymph"
skipper A. Brown, Snr.
engineer.. J.C.H. Harvey.
"Southern Queen", skipper
G. H. Harvey.
engineer.. A. Brown, Jnr.
We understand that later that same afternoon,
May 30th; both launches, in charge of Naval ratings, were on their way to Dunkirk.
Eventually "Ferry Nymph" came back to Ramsgate,
& early in July was towed back from Ramsgate to Poole.
Examination revealed many scars in her woodwork, &
aboard her were a large number of empty cartridge cases, sundry other relics, & a good quantity of Dunkirk's sand. The boat was reconditioned, & is now in service again.
The "Southern Queen" did not return. We have since met an Army Officer when on leave who stated that a bomb fell close to the boat shortly after he had been taken off the beach in her. She collapsed &
slowly sank. He remarked that he had been in the boat many times whilst it was on the Sandbanks ferry, &
little expected to be in it again on the other side of the channel. He stated that the boat made two more trips inshore after rescuing his party before being sunk.
So far we have no further information as to the boat's work whilst at Dunkirk.
