Minutes of the Meeting of 24th June were agreed. 2. Report of payments for the week ending 2nd July amounting to £334.5.2. was presented and passed. 3. Proposals put forward by Mr. Moore for settling claims in respect of sailing barges were considered. (1) Rates of Hire. Agreed as in the Schedule before the Committee. (11) Compensation for total loss. General principles agreed. Two valuations will be called for normally, with a third when necessary, (Suggested the fee for a valuation be limited to £5 5/5/. 14 this could be 15/5/- arranged. 4. Service of Tugs. Committee considered and agreed Mr. Moore's report as follows:- (a) Dunkirk Operation. Messrs. Watkins will make no charge for the use of their craft. Other tug owners ask for payment of one day's hire while towing barges etc. to Ramsgate or Dover and one day's hire for time spent returning to Gravesend, but they will make no charge for the time spent during actual operations. (b) Other Evacuation Operations. Coastal towage rates will apply for the whole period of employment, plus the two days in relative cases referred to in (a) above. The rates are those already being paid by the Department for other work by the same tugs. It was agreed that the Committee should meet again at 10.30. a.m. on Wednesday, 10th July, 1940.
