A note about image and OCR quality

Every reasonable effort has been made to present these document images as flat, straight and accurately cropped as possible. In order to facilitate the great task of clearing up the situation caused by taking every kind of craft for this operation, I have asked all the Officers at the various ports to send me complete lists as far as possible showing the names of vessels with names and addresses of owners of all craft taken by them and ordered to proceed for this requirement. (b) Some of these vessels were returned immediately they arrived at the port as being too small, or unsuitable for other reasons. Some of these we know, and others we do not. t (c) Some vessels were subsequently returned to their owners, after their duty, but in a damaged condition, and some vessels have been lost; the number or names of these at present, officially, we do not know. * (a) A signal was sent from D.O.D. (H) Admiralty, 2321/1, regarding the disposal of the remainder of the vessels on completion of this operation. (e) I understand that a re-allocation will be made of those vessels from these ports, which are suitable, and they will then be used for local defence service, the remainder being returned to owners. (f) As to those vessels which are re-allocated, I have sent a semi official letter to Commander Garrett (D:S.V.P) asking that we be notified of all re-allocations, SO that our records may be correcte And also of theor released = owners is unsuitable. (g) In connection with the question of the requisitioning of those vessels taken, I know that approximately 130 were requisitioned, but there are no doubt more which were requisitioned by the local Naval Authorities etc It is impossible to say which those vessels were, unless we enquire from each individual Naval Authority, and I think in the circumstances we cannot very well send formal requisition letters for those vessels which will be kept on for further service as local defence unless you decide to make a clean sweep and send requisition letters to all owners of vessels retained by re-allocation. 1 have had a list made of all ressels taken, to be added to, as we 9th further lists.
