It is pointed out, however, in connection with Enclosure
No. 6 that the Spirit Barges (not Sprit) referred to were requisitioned on behalf of the War Office for Canal and Inland
Water Transport of Petrol to the B.E.F. and so far as this
Department is aware, these craft took no part in the "Dynamo"
operation. They were, however, abandoned at Dunkirk and
Calais when the evacuation took place.
