Boat proceeded to pick up survivors during the bombing attacks, and, having filled up, proceeded towards Ramsgate. On her way across she was fired at by 3 trawlers at 1,100 yards range, one of whom then tried to ram her. All the crew and survivors jumped overboard except two R.N.V.R. officers and Able Seaman Strand. The R.N.V.R. officers were wounded and Strand took charge of the boat, narrowly preventing the boat being rammed. The boat was eventually towed to Ramsgate. Recommendation. Able Seaman L. F. Strand, C/J.69009. Acted with great coolness and resource under fire in taking charge of boat when his officers had been wounded, and the remainder of the crew and survivors had jumped overboard, and taking such actior as was necessary to prevent boat being rammed and to enable identification of the boat to be effected.
