A note about image and OCR quality

Engineer, Mr. J. Crockett. Whilst in charge of the after boiler room, closed down the fuel supply to the forward boiler, and under very great difficulty was able to maintain steam pressure and water level in the boilers. He displayed great initiative and gallantry in the circumstances, in view of the fact that there was steam escaping. Recommended for decoration. CANTERBURY - Charles Archibald Hancock, Master. This ship completed four trips. On the third trip she was bombed and a near miss damaged the ship and put her out of action. In addition to those four trips, she had completed three other trips to Calais and Boulogne, continually subjected to bombing and also gunfire from shore batteries. Near miss put the ship out of use for the remainder of the operation. Recommendation. OFFICER. Master, Charles Archibald Hancock. Displayed great initiative and seamanship in getting the ship into Dunkirk, and also after the ship had been severely damaged, in getting her back to Dover. Recommended for decoration.
