OFFICERS:
Captain Lionel George Dawson, R.N. (Retd.).
As Captain of H.M.S. LYNX, this officer was entirely
responsible for the organisation of the Base throughout
the operation. The handling of the vastly increased
number of officers and men, their accommodation,
victualling, and distribution to the many and various
units without any barrack facilities, reflects the
greatest credit upon him, and his tireless efforts,
determination and power of improvisation had a direct
bearing on the success of the enterprise.
Recommended for decoration.
Lieutenant Commander William Canning Eykyn, R.N. (Retd.).
As Executive Officer of H.M.S. LYNX, this officer
was responsible for the supervising of the vastly
increased personnel passing through the Base during the
operation. Officers and men for beach parties, pier
parties, spare destroyers' crews, Naval officers and men
for personnel ships, small craft, etc,, all had to be
handled and dealt with. This officer was also concerned
directly with the operational process of getting a number
of ships and boats to sea. His leadership and personality
were outstanding, and whilst eliminating sleep from his
programme, his sense of humour and determination played
an active part towards the success of the operation.

Paymaster Commander Cecil John Leary, R.D., R.N.R.
For outstanding zeal, initiative and resource in
meeting the almost continuous demands made on him at all
hours of the day and night, with complete and unvarying
success.

Commander Desmond Adair Stride, R.N. (Retd.).
In the absence of Captain Auxiliary Patrol at sea,
Commander Stride organised the entire A/S Patrols and
sailing of drifters and motor boats, working under
Captain A/P, for Dunkirk.
This officer worked continuously night and day
throughout the operation almost without rest, and his
cheerful determination was an inspiration to officers
and men, contributing largely to the success of the
operation.
