An exceptionally able officer whose attention in promoting the efficiency of the ship's company in the performance of their seamanlike and action duties, was fully proved by the highly satisfactory manner in which the ship embarked approximately 3,500 troops and was fought when attacked by aircraft and shore batteries. Recommended for decoration. Lieutenant Commander Denis Worth Deane, R.N. As Navigating Officer carried out his duties most ably, frequently under fire and was of the greatest assistance in keeping the ship's reckoning under most difficult conditions and in charting the routes and ever-increasing number of wrecks. Recommended for mention. Mr. Richard James Archy Baker, Gunner (T). As officer of the quarters aft efficiently directed the fire of his quarters independently and displayed initiative in action. Recommended for mention. RATINGS. Able Seaman Frank Stroud, P/SSX.15110. Gunlayer of starboard 0.5 machine gun whose good shooting probably damaged or brought down an enemy aircraft.
