Example of gallantry under fire. Recommended for decoration. Mr. Reginald James Crew B.Sc., Schoolmaster, R.N. Displayed conspicuous coolness and devotion to duty during and after the disaster. Saved a number of lives by rescuing ratings in distress in the oil covered water, landing with a party of survivors in Dunkirk. Took charge and eventually navigated an old motor boat back to England. Recommended for mention. RATINGS. Pottv Officer Harold Richard Emery C/JAJh439. Petty Officer Samuel Bennion. C/JX.102723. These two Petty Officers ably backed up Mr.Crew, displaying marked initiative and coolness. Recommended for mention. Leading Stoker Frederick Staples, C/KX.84191. Acted as right hand man to Mr. Clare, taking charge of younger stokers, by calm bearing dispelling any tendancy to panic.
