KEITH operated off the coast in two prolonged periods between 1730/30/5 and 0900/1/6, when she finally sank as a result of damage sustained during repeated bomb attacks. The Rear Admiral reports: "Under shell fire and bomb attacks Captain Berthon handled his ship with great coolness and judgment, and met all the calls put upon him and his ship. Recommended for mention. Lieutenant Graham James Alexander Lumsden, R.N., Navigating Officer. The Rear Admiral reports: "During the air attack which finally disabled KEITH the Officer handled the ship with complete coolness in a masterly way, and took drastic avoiding action at high speed in very confined waters full of shipping.
