I regret to have to report the loss of thereise
BRITHER by enemy action at 1013 let June 1940 off the Bolgian
coast. The circumstances are as follows.
at about 0315 while embarking British troors off

ship crecked right across in the vioinity of the suimast. This 18

In order to precerve stability the torpedoes and
death charges were jottluoned and the ship floated confortably
with little increase in drought. I invected ongine room and No.3
doilor room and found that a Joall acount of nuter was making its

to the enginos unl the ship thereafter remined imobile.

at about 0945. This consisted of lovel bumbing from about 0000t.
such bomber acting independently. about hulf a squalron of 18
carried out the attack. Considering the ship WAS & stationary
targot and there was little wind these attacks were Dourly carried C
out and no bumbo hit. This may have been due to pon pon fire is
which Hunner 12 new in charge. Unfortunately this
gallant officer WAS killed at his post by machine run bullets which
were fired continuously us the bombers pussed overhead.
