Between 05:00 and 09:00 vessel was shifted five times owing to falling tide. 07:00 - Enemy's shore guns commenced firing at ships loading troops along the beach. 09:00 - We have loaded approximately 420 troops. No more space on board is available. Weighed anchor and proceeded for Downs. Course as requisite to avoid enemy's shells. Troops on upper deck standing by to repel enemy air attack. 17:00 - Berthed alongside in Ramsgate Harbour. Discharged troops. Received fresh water and stores. Crew of this ship entirely fatigued. Borrowed two Naval Ratings from Naval authorities ashore. Proceeded outside harbour and anchored for the night. Crew clean hold and deck. All crew turn in for the night. Look out kept by borrowed Naval Ratings. 31st May 1940. Forenoon Crew employed overhauling Brenn Gun and rifles left on board with /troops.
