The destruction of confidential documents in an
emergency is being considered on other papers.
For smaller vessels operating in shallow waters it
is suggested that C.B's and S.P's be stored in a safe lined
with incendiary materials as proposed by S.O. Naval Base,
Barrow on N.I.D. 01398/40. The ignition system could be
modified to function automatically when the compartment is
flooded e.g. using a spring controlled plunger locked by a
soluble plug.
Complete destruction of C.B's by this method cannot
be guaranteed and consideration is being given to the
possibility of increasing the destructive effect of the
incendiaries by interleaving each book at suitable intervals
with sheets of celluloid or nitrocellulose.
