Flare Burning Drifter "Boy Roy" on 28th May, 1940. 2. Temporary Skipper E.F. Dettman, R.N.R., who was in command of "Boy Roy" was examined on 5th September, 1940. 3. As "Boy Roy" was approaching Dunkirk at about 2100, Dive bombers dropped about 12 bombs all round the ship. These near misses opened the seams of the wooden hull and she made water everywhere. 4. As the ship was sinking fast, the Commanding Officer turned her aside out of the channel and ran her towards the shore on the Western side of the entrance where she was grounded about 7 minutes after the attack. 5. Before furnaces were flooded, C.B's and S.P's N. were burnt. The secret charts, two Lewis guns and the breech of the 3-pdr. gun were transferred to a destroyer. 6.
