A note about image and OCR quality

Every reasonable effort has been made to present these document images as flat, straight and accurately cropped as possible. As most of the small craft affected in these enquiries were converted for aval purposes and in nearly all cases sank very quickly little information egarding material has been obtained. The following general suggestions are made as the result of interviews ith survivors:- (a) the watertight subdivision of these vessels is in most cases quite inadequate to provide sufficient flotation when a part of the ship is holed. (b) light shields for guns and some protection for bridges are very desirable. (c) alternative stowage for and means of destroying C.B.'s etc. when necessary is desirable - (Note In diesel engined vessels it is extremely difficult to destroy books by fire). (a) Rod and chain steering connections between wheel and rudder are easily fractured by shock from explosions. (e) More isolating valves easily accessible required in main and auxiliary steam systems. (f) Cast iron main intake pipes for circulators are easily fractured by shock (In a number of vessels so fitted the pipes have been boxed in with cement to prevent this). A tabular summary of points revealed by these enquiries forms inclosure 1 with this report. i. Two reports made Engineer by Commander T.
