This boat was used off the beaches at Dunkirk during severe bombing from the air. Direct hits were registered on several vessels. Boat proceeded to pick up survivors during the bombing attacks, and, having filled up, proceeded towards Ramsgate. On her way across she was fired at by 3 trawlers at 1, 100 yards range, one of whom then tried to ram her. All the crew and survivors overboard except two R.N.V.R. officers and Able Seam Strand. The R.N.V.R. officers were wounded and Str charge of the boat, narrowly preventing the boat bei: rammed. The boat was eventually towed to Ramsgate. Recommendation. Able Seaman L. F. Strand, O/J.69009. Acted with great coolness and resource un fire in taking charge of boat when his officer been wounded, and the remainder of the crew an survivors had jumped overboard, and taking suc as was necessary to prevent boat being rammed enable identification of the boat to be effect DSM Recommended for decoration.
