A note about image and OCR quality

Merchant Navy Gunner George Knight, Throughout the operation he continued firing his gun at the enemy planes, although being machine gunned and bombed the whole time. He succeeded in bringing down an enemy plane. DSM Recommended for decoration. Fireman Robert Moody. Whilst attempting to take troops off the beach the soldiers had to wade out to the boats, and this Fireman, throughout the whole time swam from the beach to the lifeboats with soldiers who were too weak to do this. D.S.M Recommended for mention. MAID OF ORLEANS - Gordon Dyer Walker, Master. (Decorated for this operation in London Gazette 7th June, 1940). This ship completed four trips to Dunkirk, and in addition, three trips prior to Operation Dynamo to Calais and Boulogne. A very large number of troops were brought back to England. Ship continually being bombed by aircraft. In one trip the crew discharged a large number of petrol cans, containing water, on to the jetty at Dunkirk. NEPHRITE - Cyril Gifford West, O.B.E., Master. Recommendation, RATING. Acting Able Seaman Albert Edward Mellis, C/LDX.5187. Showed great gallantry whilst under bombing attack, firing his gun all the time. Was observed to have brought down at least one enemy plane. DSM Recommended for decoration.
