Operation "DYNAMO" - Recommendations of Personnel.
H.M.S. VANQUISHER. - Lieutenant-Commander Conrad Byron Alers-Hankey, R.N.
VANQUISHER had been at sea from 22nd to 26th May
patrolling off S.W. Ireland, and arrived at Dover early 28th
May - although Officers and men were therefore tired on
that date, 7 trips were made to Dunkirk between the 28th May
and 4th June, about 4,000 troops being brought home.
Having made one trip on 28th and two on 29th, her
Commanding Officer found his sight and judgment to be so
seriously impaired by lack of rest that he did not consider
himself fit to retain command and he therefore arranged for
temporary reliefs for himself and his Gunner. During the
operation a total of 4 officers and 9 ratings had to be
landed to obtain rest.

For skilful handling of his ship throughout the
evacuation of Dunkirk, thereby evacuating about 4,000
troops to England.
